DUFF WELCOMES CAMBRIDGE NETWORK SUPPORT FOR EURO CURRENCY

Local Liberal Democrat Euro MP Andrew Duff has warmly welcomed the result of the Cambridge Network's 'Voice of High-Tech' on-line vote in which its members came out clearly in favour of Britain joining the euro. The poll, which took place in August, was the NetworkÕs first ever on-line vote.

Andrew Duff said:

"65% of the Cambridge Network have supported the principle of sterlingÕs membership of the euro.

"This is good news for those who are fighting to ensure that the UK is not side-lined by contemporary economic and political developments in Europe.

"It is especially welcome because much of the Cambridge hi-tech sector has strong connections with its equivalent community in the US.

"The NetworkÕs support for the euro implies that the traditional American relationship is expected to thrive in the future if volatile sterling is replaced by a larger and more stable single European currency.

"Cambridge Network is to be congratulated in tackling the euro issue head on, and not copying some other business sectors in pretending it will go away. It wonÕt!"
