* Local universities are set to benefit, after the European Parliament voted to invest £13 billion in more research and development. The ‘Sixth Framework Programme’ sets aside approximately £13 billion over a five year period for research and development into diseases, medicines and technology. Local Euro-MP/local campaigner XY said "The £13 billion will be used for research into areas such as cancer and many other diseases, as well as renewable energy and transportation. I sincerely hope and expect local universities to be involved in some way with the EU programme, so we can pass on its benefits to students and academics, and the local economy."
