*The European Parliament has acted to give workers better protection from asbestos. Last year Euro-MPs voted to cut the maximum level of exposure to asbestos over a measured period of 8 hours for all workers. Additionally, they voted for halving the proposed limit value for demolition, removal, repair and maintenance work and, for all other activities, reducing the reference time period to 4 hours. They also called on governments across Europe to increase compensation to those affected by asbestos. Local Euro-MP/local campaigner XY said "In light of the recent alarming statistics on the number of asbestos-related deaths, the new rules will also provide important safeguards against further deaths."
