MEP welcomes new Stansted - USA Service

MEP WELCOMES MOVES TO RESPECT ASYLUM SEEKERS

Andrew Duff, Liberal Democrat MEP for Eastern England, has welcomed the findings of a leading think tank set up by the Runnymede Trust on the future of multi-ethnic Britain, that has called for the scrapping of the voucher system for asylum seekers.

Andrew Duff has been a firm critic of the voucher system for asylum seekers.

Mr Duff said: "The Government has an appalling record in dealing with asylum seekers. Labour has for too long been unwilling to give asylum seekers the dignity every person deserves when they arrive in this country, often from very tragic circumstances.

"Asylum seekers should not be further stigmatised by having to use vouchers to buy food and other goods."

MEP WELCOMES NEW STANSTED - USA SERVICE

Andrew Duff, Liberal Democrat MEP for Eastern England, has welcomed the Start of the first direct non-stop daily service between Stansted and the USA.

The Liberal Democrat Euro-MP says that: "This is good news for Stansted and the East of England. A direct link with New York will benefit both business and tourism.

"For business it will make the East of England more competitive and a more attractive place for many international firms. In particular this can only help the growth of the hi-tech industries in and around Cambridge, and their relationship with America.

"For tourism it will make Eastern England a realistic destination for many holidaymakers."

Mr Duff added: "This does reinforce the need to further improve the public transport links to Stansted."
